Collision occurred at a Union City crossing; no injuries reported from the incident
UNION CITY, Ga. — A train struck an Amazon truck in Union City on Wednesday morning, blocking a key intersection and halting rail traffic. The collision occurred at the Roosevelt Highway and Goodson Road crossing.
Local officials confirmed that no injuries were reported to the train crew or the truck driver. Union City police responded to the scene to investigate the crash. According to reports, the Amazon truck did not appear to be carrying customer packages at the time of the incident.
Cleanup crews were dispatched to clear the wreckage from the tracks. “Our priority is to safely clear the scene and understand what led to this incident,” a Union City police spokesperson said.
This collision highlights the critical issue of grade-crossing safety, a major concern for both freight and passenger rail networks. The track is operated by CSX, a line that is primarily used for freight but is essential to the U.S. supply chain.
While Amtrak’s Crescent route, which serves Georgia, operates on different nearby tracks, significant freight derailments or blockages can cause cascading delays across the entire rail system. The Federal Railroad Administration is expected to review the incident as part of its ongoing safety initiatives. Authorities have not yet released a cause for the collision, and rail traffic was expected to resume after a full inspection of the track.
