A Complete Rider Guide to Amtrak Crescent Train

Amtrak operates the Crescent, a daily long-distance passenger train between New York City and New Orleans (“Crescent City”). The 1,377-mile (2,216-kilometer) route connects the Northeast and Gulf Coast via the Appalachian Piedmont, with major stops in Charlotte, North Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; and Birmingham, Alabama.

The majority of the Crescent’s route is on the Norfolk Southern Railway. It is the successor to the Southern Crescent, which was first introduced in 1970 by Norfolk Southern’s predecessor, the Southern Railway.

Amtrak Crescent Train Guide & FAQs

Do Amtrak Crescent trains have WiFi?

Yes, Amtrak Crescent provides WiFi on its trains. Although most Amtrak Crescent rides will have WiFi as stated, some trains may not have WiFi, and onboard WiFi may lose connection in remote locations. We urge that you bring a book or download a movie simply to be safe. Amtrak Crescent WiFi is mainly best utilized for browsing the web, reading emails, and chatting with friends; don’t expect to binge-stream your favorite show.

Are there power outlets or USB plugs on the train?

Yes, there are power outlets aboard Amtrak Crescent trains. You can usually find one or two outlets each row of seats, so be a considerate traveler and check to see if your seat mate wants to charge their electronics as well. The onboard power outlets allow you to charge both a computer and USB devices using a USB power adapter, which is normally included with most phones and tablets.

Because Amtrak Crescent may occasionally use replacement train vehicles, not all journeys are guaranteed to include power outlets. We recommend bringing a power bank to charge your phone for all journeys longer than 2 hours, just in case.

What is Amtrak Crescent’s schedule?

Amtrak Crescent typically has 306 scheduled train runs every day. However, the exact departure and arrival hours vary according on the day and route. To find the exact timetable for your journey, utilize the search function on this page.

Are there bathrooms on Amtrak Crescent trains?

Are meals or beverages available?

Amtrak Crescent offers snacks to keep you satisfied during your journey. Make sure to have a credit card and some cash in case you get hungry.

Do you have to print your Amtrak Crescent ticket?

Amtrak Crescent does not require a paper ticket to board the train. Instead, when you make your reservation, you will receive an eTicket via email. You can show the ticketing agent this eTicket on your smartphone as you board.

Does Amtrak Crescent offer any premium features like extra legroom or movies?

Amtrak Crescent goes above and above for its passengers by providing premium features.

Do you find yourself squashed on a regular seat, or do you like having more room to spread out? You’re in luck, as Amtrak Crescent has extra legroom seating.
