Amtrak Train Hits Truck Near San Antonio; 129 Unharmed

Texas Eagle service temporarily halted in Schertz, Texas, after morning collision with rock hauler

SCHERTZ, Texas — An Amtrak train carrying 129 passengers struck a semi-tractor trailer in Schertz, Texas, early Tuesday morning, according to local authorities. The collision, which occurred around 8:05 a.m., resulted in no injuries to passengers, crew, or the truck driver.

The train, identified as the northbound Texas Eagle, was traveling through Comal County when it collided with the rock hauler. The incident took place at the railroad crossing on Solms Quarry Road at FM 482.

Officials confirmed that nine crew members were also on board the train, which did not derail. The semi-truck was occupied only by its driver.

“The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority,” an Amtrak spokesperson said in a statement. “We are cooperating fully with local authorities as they investigate the circumstances of the collision.”

The incident highlights safety concerns at railroad crossings, particularly those used by heavy industrial vehicles like the rock hauler involved. The Texas Eagle is a daily long-distance route connecting San Antonio to Chicago, and incidents on the track can cause significant service delays.

Schertz police reported that the railroad tracks were cleared and all associated roads were reopened by 10:35 a.m. The train was held for inspection before being cleared to continue its journey, though passengers experienced a significant delay.
