Amtrak offers one of the largest allowances for free carry-on and checked baggage in the travel industry. When planning your luggage always keep in mind the luggage policies, Here are the Amtrak® Baggage Policies 

  1. The allowance of four items per person (two of no more than 50 lbs., plus two of more than 25 lbs.) is more than many people carry on board.
  2. Infant items (strollers, diaper bags) are allowed for passengers traveling with infants under two, which does not count towards the carry-on baggage or personal item allowance.
  3. Checked baggage allows passengers to check two bags free of charge to their final destination.
  4. Excess/oversized baggage fees are charged for each carry-on and personal item above the quantity and size limits.
  5. Personal items, such as small bags, backpacks, purses, or laptops, are allowed, but do not count toward the carry-on baggage limit.
  6. Each passenger can bring a total of two carry-on items on board the train, each not exceeding 50 lbs. and 28 x 22 x 14 inches.
  7. Temporary bag storage is available for customers holding tickets for Amtrak travel for $10 per item for 24 hours.
  8. Amtrak offers baggage assistance and temporary bag storage at many stations.
  9. Overweight bags must be repacked to under 50 lbs.
  10. Items must be kept in the passenger’s custody, stored in overhead racks, under seats, or designated baggage areas.

Things to Know

  • There is free Wi-Fi and a café Car.
  • To reach Lake George, exit at Fort Edward and hire a vehicle from the nearest rental company. Call to make pickup arrangements. The drive from the rental company to the lake’s shore takes around 15 minutes.
  • To go to Lake Placid, exit at Plattsburgh and hire a vehicle from the rental Company. Call to make pickup arrangements. Plan to drive for at least one hour.
